Telling the Story.

Before the roads, before the coming of the motorcar, the mountain country of the American West existed largely in the imagination of the people.

All around this new country folks told stories of the mountain west, inspired by the remarkable paintings of Albert Bierstadt and the photographs of early adventurers like William Henry Jackson.

But the trek to the highlands of America was an arduous and slow journey, rife with danger, possible for only a few brave and foolhardy souls.

Then came the railroads.
